KNOWN FOR
Abigail Adams was the wife of John Adams and the mother of John Quincy Adams. She dedicated so much to the nation that people called her "Mrs. President". She was the first First Lady to live in the white house.
EARLY LIFE
Abigail Adams was born on November 11, 1744 in Weymouth, Massachusetts to a wealthy family. Her father, William Smith, was a Congregationalist minister. Her mother was Elizabeth Quincy Smith. Abigail had 3 sisters and 1 brother. Whenever Abigail was missing the family knew exactly where to find her- Abigail's father's library. Abigail was sickly as a child, so she was taught to read and write a home.
ADULTHOOD
When Abigail was 17 years old, a young man came to visit them. His name was John Adams. Three years later, the two were married in the Smith family home. They later had Abigail Adams Smith, then John Quincy Adams (6th president). Susanna Adams died when she was 2, the exact year when their next child Charles Adams was born. Thomas Boylston was born in 1772. 7 years after Susanna died, Abigail gave birth to a stillborn daughter. She was supposed to be named Elizabeth. After John Adams defeated Thomas Jefferson in the presidential election , Abigail heard that Charles Adams had died. After a few days after Charles' death, Abigail and John John Adams moved into the new White House. She lived her life through many of America's hard times such as the Revolutionary War and the time of building our nation. She died of Typhoid Fever on October 28, 1818. Her life inspired many people to fight for woman's rights and fight for African American's right.
MY TRIBUTE
My tribute will be a library. I thought of this because Abigail Adams loved to read when she was young. She would sit in her father's library and read all day. I think my tribute will match Abigail Adams because if she didn't read, she wouldn't have some wonderful ideas to send her husband while he was away trying to fight for the country. That is why I thought a library was best to honor Abigail Adams.
